Ibadan, Oyo State | Monday, 13 July 2026

The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Western Zone, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Oyo State Government in promoting tourism, preserving cultural heritage, and advancing sustainable economic development through the travel and tourism industry.

This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the NANTA Western Zone Executive Council, led by the Vice President, Prince Olaleye Abiodun Ajibade, to the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Dr. Wasiu Ajani Olatubosun, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Ibadan.

Prince Ajibade described Oyo State as one of Nigeria’s foremost tourism destinations and commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration for its deliberate efforts in repositioning the state’s culture and tourism sector.

He appreciated the Ministry for maintaining a cordial relationship with tourism stakeholders and acknowledged the consistent support received by NANTA over the years. He noted that stronger collaboration between government and the private sector remains essential for unlocking the enormous potential of tourism as a driver of economic growth, job creation, investment, and cultural exchange.

In his response, the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Wasiu Ajani Olatubosun, graciously accepted the apology and reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Oyo State Government to maintaining a productive partnership with NANTA.

The Commissioner emphasized that security, quality infrastructure, professionalism, and a conducive business environment remain fundamental pillars for the growth of tourism. He assured the delegation that the Ministry would continue working with stakeholders to strengthen the tourism value chain while protecting the industry from fraudulent operators through effective regulation and collaboration.

He further stressed that tourism development is best achieved when government and the private sector work together with a shared vision, adding that Oyo State remains committed to creating opportunities that will attract investment, increase visitor traffic, and showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

Members of the NANTA delegation commended the Commissioner for his visionary leadership and praised the remarkable progress recorded in Oyo State’s tourism sector. They noted that the state’s tourism initiatives and cultural programmes have significantly enhanced its visibility and reputation within Nigeria and beyond.

Both parties concluded the meeting by expressing their determination to deepen cooperation through joint programmes, destination marketing initiatives, tourism investment promotion, professional capacity development, and policies that will further strengthen the travel and tourism industry.

The meeting ended on a cordial note, with both the Ministry and NANTA Western Zone reaffirming their shared commitment to positioning Oyo State as a leading tourism destination in Nigeria and across Africa.
